Cant recall where, but read somewhere that ATM machines arent readily available in lots of Austrian 'resorts'& that plastic is not widely taken; is this indeed the case or will I be okay with plastic ( ATM to withdraw cash or to use over the counter in bars etc)?
Am staying in Ellmau
Thanks in advance

There's an ATM at Ellmau Tourist Office that I used twice with no problems and used Credit Card to buy boots with no problems either.

I remember one of the first self drive trips we ever undertook, I read that credit cards were not widely excepted in many garages, a load of garbage we drove through France, Belgium,Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and finally Italy not one garage refused.

Always use cash, but have the plastic just in case. You can find ATM's in train stations, banks and BIG hotel chains take plastic

A little bit of advice, Raffeisen banks are GREAT!

What's cheaper these days a pound or euro?
Uh oh, I think I broke'd the lift

ATMs all over the place, you'll have no problem getting cash. Using card as direct payment, not sure. The last thing they want is for tourists to run out of money!

I always take enough cash to cover all the exes. That means a bit a planning and watching euro/£ trends. It also means keeping your wallet really close ~ I even pay my for my accomodation in cash.

Using cash machines costs you a percentage, generally 2/3% for although there are a couple of cards that don't make a charge. The exchange rate is also variable.

To your question. Yes there are cash machines in Ellmau. If you want to pay your accomodation bar bill with a card, you need to email them beforehand and check.

There are quite a number of hotels, particularly where they are family run, that prefer not to take cards.
