Hello

I have just posted this in the snow area on the forum so i think i have put it in the wrong place??

I have booked a holiday in borovets for my family me and my wife have skiied alot in france / italy, but we are taking our 2 young boys 6 and 9, its there first time.

Reading some of the forum comments on borovets most of them are REALLY bad. poor pistes, lifts old and break down, town full of ladies i dont want my sons to see just yet, food s bad, people are rude, and alot of people saying its not that cheap and go to the alps

I have been to the alps many times, to many different resorts and if its a case of paying a few hundred pounds more to get a great holiday, it may be worth it

The comments on bansko seem better but it sounds like a building site and the lift Queues really long

I really want a great holiday for us all and mostly the kids

Do you think bulgaria, bansko / borovets???? will be ok

Or should I stick to France / Italy etc and pay a few more pounds for something that will be ace.

We are in the hotel Rila

Help please I am worried now!!!!!

Many thanks

Marcus

I last went to Borovets 9 years ago and although I found the skiing was good, the locals let it down. We stayed in Hotel Samokov and I am afraid to say that ladies of the night were always hanging around in reception. In addition, there was a 'mafia' wedding on one of the days and a friend was actually threatened by a local with a gun on the hotel nightclub dancefloor!!
I thought about taking my two young children but there is no way I would entertain it when I think back to my time there.

Hi
We went to Borovets last year and stayed in the Rila..
If you have been used to France and Italy i would stick to that, you will be so dissapointed with Both Borovets and the Rila.. We went Half board but ate out every night, the price of a cup of coffee was different every time we ordered one. Ski instructors were terrible, not interested in the group more interested in using their mobile phones and getting the group into their favourite restaurants for their commission. When taking children into the restaurants from the Kids ski school, the Kids were being charged the earth for a can of pop and some chips.. So parents were not happy at all.
The lifts are crap, when the Gondola is open... Gondola!!! Bubble lift , that is it really as far as lifts go, lots of drag lifts, Watch out for the people working on the drag lifts, when i was there an english lady had her pocket picked but realised her purse had gone part way up the drag lift then got off and came back down to the bottom shouting at the men working on that lift, they eventually gave in and gave her her purse back.
Another man had an accident on the slope, No helicopter to take him down only a SKidoo, but the unfortunate chap had to sign a form so the skidoo owner would get paid !!!, then .... the skidoo went over on the poor blokes shoulder giving him more damage..
To be honest the whole place is just a scam, and yes , girls are evident!!!

So its up to you, didnt like the rila, but it looks good in the Brochure
People are ignorant , ski area is not very good by French and Italian standards.. Oh yes.. if you go into the bars, dont expect change from the notes you pass over, they just say we dont have any change!!!!

Cheers

I almost booked to Bulgaria this year on a last minute deal but changed my my mind and went to France for Christmas. The reviews seem to swing between loving it and hating it. One reveiwer said if you've been to the Alpes DO NOT go to Bulgaria as you'll be gutted.

If you want to try eastern Europe, my wife and I went to Poiana Brasov in Romania a couple of years ago. The skiing is limited but the hotels are excellent. The food is good in a stodgy kind of way (some restaraunts served bear!). The ski instructor was the best I have ever been taught by. Funny, patient, warm and friendly.

There have been not too many positive comments, the choice is yours,if you can afford it pay the extra and visit
another country. By the sounds of the comments I would not want to take my daughter there. :x

I personally have no experience of Bulgaria, but from reviews and forums reports its not a place I fancy.
My Son is well used to lads holidays abroad and a group went to Bulgaria, not sure where tho' and not for skiing. Their verdict, never again. Their words were like scary....intimidating.......unsafe......dodgy food.
If you can change your holiday I would definately opt for The Alps or Finland. Somewhere that is more family orientated.
Thats just my opinion of the place, but I am sure I have read reviews that some people love it. Let us know how you get on.
I'm a laydee

If you want cheap, go to Austria. I would never go to Bulgaria based on reviews given here alone.
