Hi, I put this question in here because the Eastern Europe section didn't seem to have much traffic so apologies admin and move if you see fit.

Question is, has anyone skied in Maribor? If so, what's it like? My cousin and partner bought a house out there and are currently doing it up, they're not skiers but bought it cos they fell in love with the country and I only found out the other day that it's only half an hour from Maribor at the moment and with a new motorway currently being built will eventually be only 15 min drive from the slopes.

They've said we can use it for free when we like (bit like camping inside at the moment though!) but next season was thinking of maybe a weeks skiing? I know it's fairly low altitude but for only a flight plus ski costs etc could be a good deal?

Any tips/info would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

Ally

I was talking to a bloke in the pub on Friday who told me he knew someone who had just come back from Maribor and fell in love with the place. Cheap flights with Ryanair now too. Dont know anything about the ski area though.

Thanks for the reply Tony! It's true about the cheap flights, I did a quick search for the week we are skiing in France in March and they were 1p each way from Stansted, with taxes it only came to £22 return each. Bit of a hassle getting to Stansted as we're oop north in Yorkshire but would still work out cheaper.

Thanks again :)

Yorkshire to Stansted isnt a big deal. I am in South Lincs and its just over an hour from here. Plus its easy to get to. I often have to fly Gatwick or Manchester, and its 2 and a half hours each time, so Stansted is like a bonus for me!!!!

I have been doing some research into Jasna, and found a few interesting websites, including

www.chaletslovakia.com

www.ski-tatras.co.uk

Both give details on the pistes and accommodation, and it appears there are indeed some good deals to be had.

You can fly to Poprad from Luton with Sky Europe quite cheap too, and some places on those websites include free transfers from Poprad.

Go for it!
