Hi,
Due to a change in my circumstances there is a very good chance I will be in a position to ski for 2 months between Feb and April (March and April being ideal). I'm male, will be 32 by the time the trip comes around and I think I would be classed as a reasonable intermediate. I have never been to Canada and wonder what opinions people have about that as a possible destination? Banff appears highly reagarded. Ideally I'm looking for great skiing coupled with a decent social life and reasonable cost of living. I really enjoyed Mayrhofen recently but I am open to any suggestions. I would like to take a few lessons too. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Allow me to be the first to rave about Banff. Where do I start? March and April are excellent months but allow me to recommend half way through february onwards. February is the best month for Rocky Mountain Magic. January gets extremely cold but by Feb its starting to warm up. Im going for 3 months starting in January. Night life is excellent with plenty clubs and pubs 48 restraunts/bars in total i beleive. Where in europe can you get a coffee on the mountain for £1?
This will be my fifth time back in Banff and i can't wait. If you have any questions relating to Banff feel free to ask!!
Cheers

Many thanks Ross. If Banff keeps you going back that many times it must be pretty special! I quite like big, cruisy runs and from what I have read Banff has plenty of these. I'm guessing it has a wide variety of terrain given the size of the place. It will probably be December before I get everything properly tied up here so I'll keep listening to any advice that arrives as it is all most welcome.

well theres plenty of big cruisy EMPTY runs, i went to Pas in andorra and the queues were horriffic you can go and notwait in a queue longer than a few people all week!! Theres also one drag lift between the 3 banff resorts at lake louise the rest are chairs-majority now high speed quads. I could go on forever!!!

You may want to look into season passes, which become more expensive the latter you buy them.

If I had the funds to do it I'd go somewhere non-english speaking so I could ski in the morning and early afternoon and then have foreign language lessons in the late afternoon say from 3-5pm from monday to friday if possible. However I don't think language tutors at ski resorts are that common. For me two months is plenty of time to ski so there's no need or hurry to ski all day every day.

Many thanks for the advice. I think Banff will definitely be where I will end up as I have not heard of anyone having a bad time there.
