Does anyone have any thoughts/recommends on staying in Valtournenche to ski Cervinia area?
Would prefer a quieter and more traditional base than purpose built Cervinia but Valtournenche is maybe too quiet and too far from lifts? (I think theres a ski bus but bit infrequent?)
I norm stay in one of the Monterosa resorts as a comparison.

Hi, late reply.
We stayed in Valtournenche for a week a few years back, it was a basic B&B in someone's house but just above the main chairlift up to the pistes.
We skied over to Cervinia from there every day but had a couple of hours skiing Valtournenche at the end of each day.
We actually made it over to Switzerland and back on one long day. A 20 minute walk down/30 minute walk back to the little town for food each night was ok as we like walking too and this was offset be being near the main lift, where you can leave your skis each night in the ski shop there.
I can give you the contact details of the B&B if you want (if they still in business)
Regards
Stephen

I have stayed in Valtourneche twice in the last few years. It is a small town with a couple of nice bars and shops selling local produce and other touristy items. We stayed at the hotel Bijou which was run by two brothers and did minibus runs to the local lift. The food there was very good. The hotel is on the edge of the public car park where the ski bus pulled in. We flew into Turin and had a hired car which we used to drive to Cervinia although sometimes we skiied across to the resort. The drive from the airport to Valtourneche was easy and about a hour and a quarter. The area lift pass also covers Pila and it was an hours drive to get there which was worth doing. There is a main road running through the town and the ski bus stops at several places along the road. We were really pleased to stay there rather than Cervinia and the local ski area was good for beginners and intermediates. There is a nice red home run from Cervinia back to the local lift. Hope this helps.
