Hi, I'm gluten and dairy intolerant, and looking on some web sites it seems like ALL the food on offer up the mountain or in resort is dumplings, pastries or bread-based!! (I'm not celiac so I won't be that bad if I get the occasional little bit)

This will be my first time on the slopes in a German speaking country, will I be able to get something like in France which is basically a sausage and frites? (Is that Fritten?)

I have been trying to learn a little German for the past six months, and I've got as far as being able to say "Können Sie mir bitte zeigen..." I'm struggling to get anything to stick, hopefully I'll get a chance to try a bit, but I guess they all speak perfect English, so it will be hard to practice.

You can definitely get bratwurst und Kartoffeln = sausage and chips in Austria at most mountain huts.
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

You can also get Tiroler Grostle, which is a potato hash with a fried egg.
Most of the bigger resort restaraunts also have soups and salad bars, various types of sausage with chips,
so you are sure to find something suitable.

I'm lactose intolerant and found deciphering menu options in mountain restaurants a bit difficult with my limited German. There's usually a good choice though so you should find something you like. And do try practicing your German, the Austrians generally appreciate the effort!
