Austria Christmas 2022 - Recommendations

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for Skiing over Christmas in Austria.
Typically go twice a year, but always a week at end of January and end of February, and we typically go high like Solden, Mayrhofen etc.
This time its with kids, so I'm trying to get an idea of where else would be good last week of December (other than resorts mentioned) from December 26th on? Especially accessible from Munich or Salzburg. Thanks!

I guess it really depends on what you want.
eg What level of skiers are you?
On or off piste?
Lively apre or quiet?
Family entertainment outside of skiing?
Large or small ski area?
Transport links to/from resort?
Ski in/out?
Hotel or Apartment?

There are a host of resorts within 60 to 90 mins of Salzburg or 90 to 120 mins of Munich.
However the closest ones tend to be lowest, so snow could theoretically be a problem,but most have great snow making facilities and to be fair I can only remember one Xmas week in the last 10 years where there was a shortage of snow,but then they made snow for the runs and brought more in via trucks and helicopters.

Give some idea of what you are looking for and I may be able to share some of my experience.

Thanks for the reply, and you are absolutely right....so here it goes:
So we have a mixed bag, 2 x Advance skiers, 2 x Intermediate Skiers, 2 newbies.....thats the adults.
Kids are 6,8,8,10,11,14,14,17.......Only the 10 year old has skied before.
My wife and I are the advanced skiers, all terrains, but seeing as we will have a reasonably small window to ski (10am-3pm as we will have to drop and collect kiddies and newbies) i'd keep it all on piste.
Quite Apres, 1/2 drinks with kiddies while they munch on a snack, then off to a pool maybe or to tire them out even more before dinner in the Halfboard hotel (nice hotel if you have any recommendations!)
Munich and Salzburg fly in will be only options from Ireland really.

So as mentioned, I have done it for 20 years now, organised family (3) or adults groups (10), but now its for a family group of 14, and ive never been away as early as late december.....

Snow is my fear...
I've started looking at Saalbach and Mayrhofen.......but pretty expensive!

You are right to be concerned about the snow conditions, Christmas / New Year often coincides with an increase in temperatures, this year it rained up to 2500 metres in the region where I live.

As well as the snow conditions I would also be concerned about the crowds, the Christmas / New Year weeks are the busiest of the season.

We gave up skiing over Christmas / New Year years ago as it simply isn't worth the bother.

Well, if you are willing to run the risk with snow, and given the info you provided, I would recommend Skiwelt, and more specifically, Soll.
Skiwelt is a very large ski area with a good selection of terrains. They probably have the best snowmaking facilities in Austria so there is virtually no chance of not having piste to ski on (unless it turns tropical and they can't make snow!). Beginner ski schools are below the first gondola so as long as learners stay down there, they don't need a lift pass. They can buy passes later in the week if they feel able to go up the mountain. There are good ski bus services from the village which are regular and the journey takes about 5 mins. Plenty of good hotels and apartments in the village and lots of places to eat out.
Have a look at Crystal ski for package hol deals, or alternatively contact the skiwelt tourist board via the skiwelt Web site. If you fly into Salzburg, Andi's Taxis do a good deal on transfers.
We were in Soll over last Xmas and slopes were deserted, apart from boxing day which was busy. However the quiet was likely due to covid restrictions.
Downside with skiwelt is that many say piste maps are complicated, but as its such a large area I would expect that.
