I'm hopefully going to Alagna start of March and wondering about driving from airport vs private transfer. Anyone have any experience of the drive? Im not up for driving anything too exciting in the mountains but if it's an easy drive I might consider it.

Long time since we did it on a road trip via Mont Blanc tunnel but the drive was easy up from Milan but long.
I recall a steady flattish drive which obvously took a long while as we didnt increase height quickly.

Considering some of the drives we have done up to resort, I'd describe this one as very tame.

Alagna was a small village rather than resort and cut off from the circuit.
They sorted out the lifts ...but destroyed some of the wild terrain like Olen and off Indren, so maybe they wanted more ppl to visit.
It was very much a wild limited place but that must have been 20 years ago.
All subsequent visits were to Gressoney as more central.
Heli trips run from high by the old refuge but there are others now depending on which routes you decide on.

Thanks thats really helpful, it sounds like it could be worth considering driving from Milan. Yes we've done the other end of the area before based from Champoluc. Alagna looks like a quiet and small village but thats good with me!
