I'm looking to have skiing lessons at a snow centre ahead of my trip to the alps has anyone done this before. Did you still need to have lessons in the resort too or did these lessons prepare you for the mountains?

In my view it all depends on how much time you have and how much effort you can put in before your trip.
I think going along for a private lesson simply to get an idea what a boot should feel like, how to handle skis, put them on take them off and carry them could be very helpful before your first ski trip.
You won't get anywhere near a standard where no lessons on holiday would be needed on a dry slope or in a snowdome. It is so, so different.
But; if you have time for quite a few lessons before your trip this can push you up the ranking for lessons. By this I mean not joining the absolute never put a ski on group but jumping up to week 2 group for example.
Hope this helps.

My partner is an avid skier - but I had never been on a ski holiday. I'm there for apres ski but terrified I would make a shambles of myself on the slopes. We booked to go to Val-d'Isère, so I got myself onto ski lessons in the months leading up to the big holiday. I went to Manchester Chill Factore for the adult beginner lessons and worked my way up to advanced courses. They honestly made me feel like a natural on the slopes and without their coaching, i dont think i would have made it to the blue trails. I got one of the unlimited passes too which helped

Absolutely get lessons in the UK before flying. Have done so to learn to ski and snowboard, and helped others do the same. It always make the holiday better IMO

lots of the snowdomes do one day beginner courses. They are really worthwhile and whilst its not "proper" snow its far superior to dry slope lessons. My advice....take a full day course. (my granddaughter has just done the childrens beginner course and progressed fabulously)
Carving leaves me all on edge

Not sure if @Annamatthews is monitoring this from 3 years ago, but nothing takes the place of some muscle memory when learning to ski. Take a lesson before you go, real snow is better, but a dry hill at least gets you sliding...
