I read something somewhere saying that Bulgaria was joining the EU on 1st April, does that mean the currency is changing? Or do I still get Levs?
Is it best to take sterling or sterling travellers cheques and change them over there or to go with it already changed?

Hi there
I've just recenlty got back from Bulgaria and to be honest with you the best currency to get is the Leva as you will get more for your money.
Enjoy your trip

Bulgaria joined the EU on 1st jan this year but won't go into the Euro until 2010 earliest. Take sterling to change into Leva or use the ATMs.

This is a very common question amongst travellers to Bulgaria because of the confusion with joining the EU.
Borovets as with everywhere in Bulgaria use Levs. I've created this page so that hopefully people can find the answer easier in future - Currency in Borovets
