I'm thinking about backcountry skiing in both Georgia and Uzbekistan next year and was wondering if anyone has been to either/both of these countries. In particular I'm curious which has the better snow. I understand that Georgian claims to have Japan like snow but don't know if that's true and how that compares to Uzbekistan. Any insights will be greatly appreciated.

I have been in both but only ski in Georgia last year.
While west Europe had not so good snow in March, Georgia had very good new snow but this can change according to your luck with the weather.
I was visiting Uzbekistan mountains in summer and even did a lift excursion - It seems to me that the equipment there is not reliable and electricity stops can happen.
Georgia is also not the same level as Austria by safety issues but I believe it much better than Uzbekistan.
Keep in mind that ski villages are not the same as in western Europe and you don't have where to go in evenings. Lifts in Georgia were quite good but staff didn't dig the fresh snow under the seats in the station. They have people in the upper station but usually they do not care too much what is going outside their hut.
I'm 68 now and enjoyed the ski in Georgia Gudauri ski but decided for my safety to go this year to Mayrhofen although it cost me more.

I see now that you speak about backcountry skiing.
Because we had beautiful snow last March I did some off piste skiing between the signed paths but not sure Godauri have good opportunities for extensive backcountry.
