Arriving on 16th February. Hoping to go somewhere in Austria - don't want a big transfer. And transfers?? Anyone know any reasonable transfers companies? I'm arriving at 7.30 in the evening, so late for trains, etc. Thanks for any info and recommendations. Going with my 16 year old son.

Thanks - looks much more reasonable than what I was finding. That's transfers sorted - now to find the 'right' place. Any suggestions......

That is the UK school holidays week......very very busy. Even the crap hotels are booked. You need to have booked about 10 months ago.

oh dear - that doesn't sound to promising. Fingers crossed we find something - might have to rent a car to get to more remote places. I've a bit of time!

ok, found lovely places in Ellmau. And Wildschonau. Not sure which is better. I know they are both low altitudes. I have skied other resorts in Austria - instructed in Kitzbuhel for a few years. My son hasn't skied as much, although he is 16, so thought they might be good for confidence building. And believe both areas have huge snow making facilities. So what do people think - ski welt or wildschönau. I'm feeling a little under pressure to book, because of your comments. I would usually like to ponder over this for a few days, but....

I am in Niederau as I write now (Wildschönau) & will be skiing Kitzbühel tomorrow. Obviously Ellmau is also close as that is SkiWelt and I normally access it via Hopfgarten or Westendorf.

I think Ellmau might be better as it gives you quick access to a MUCH larger ski area. Niederau and Auffach will be mad busy that week and the skiing in Niederau is pretty crap/limited frankly. Auffach is better skiing (it now links to Alpbach) but the town is dead with limited options. Don't stay in Oberau as it has zero skiing so it's a bus EVERY day!

So take Ellmau if you can get something reasonable. Also easy access from Munich.

p.s. Normally by mid-Feb we should be beyond worrying about "snow making" although this season is currently off to a pretty bad start down here.
