Crystal Report More Ski Holiday Sales to Austria than France in 2018-19

J2SkiNews posted Jun-2019

The UK's largest ski holiday operator, Crystal Ski Holidays, are reporting they took more holiday booking to Austria than to France last winter.

The company report that 32% of all its bookings were to Austrian resorts, 30% to French centres, although French resort Val Thorens was their overall most popular destination resort.

Unusually the company also provided data on booking for northern Britain and from southern Britain although it did not say where it drew the line.

However Crystal say Mayrhofen and Zell am See were the most popular destinations for northern skiers, with bookings from southerners seeing Tignes and Val Thorens favourites.

Analysing their data further, Crystal say Passo Tonale in Italy was the top choice for families with 1,600 families booking into the Grand Hotel Paradiso in Passo Tonale.

Ski couples' favourite hotel in their top destination of Austria was the Tirolerhof in Zell am See and for older couples the resort of Obergurgl came out top. Younger couples opted for the party hotspot of Borovets.

"This season has been a great one for Crystal and we enjoy celebrating our successes and looking back at
trends and statistics. They help us decide what we can do even better and we already have some great plans for next season," said Chris Logan, Managing Director at Crystal Ski Holidays.

Looking ahead to 2019-20 bookings Crystal report customers in the north still favour Austria but the southerners have mixed it up a bit and Italy and Finland are currently leading the way.

It is a great shame that they have decided to discontinue their self-drive option, I liked to use them simply as it was easy to book everything in one place, but not going to pay them full price for a holiday and then have to also fund a ferry or train ticket :(
