Where to buy a ski chalet for half the price and with access to the same slopes

It's possible to buy a property in the Alps without paying a mountain-high price. If you don't mind jumping on an extra ski-lift or two, you can pick up a snow home in a village that links to a bigger resort – close to a horizon-wide ski domain, and at more competitive prices than glitzier destinations.
"As a broad rule of thumb, your money goes twice as far in outlying resorts that are connected to larger ski areas," says Jeremy Rollason, head of Savills Ski.

Or you can buy in Andorra for way less than the prices above and with considerable less "cost of living" for your stays there, think Spain kinda prices. You may not get Alp sized mountains, but still some good skiing in a more affordable price range

Or rent for a season for the cost of an annual community charge.

@Broom No reason to be sorry, just letting people know there are options out there which may not be so obvious or well known. For someone on a smaller budget or who doesn't feel the need for the "flashiness" (I'm sure there are folks out there buying a chalet/apartment in the Alps more for the prestige vs the better skiing it provides) of having their own place in the Alps, then Andorra is a very good option. But of course, I am biased. -)

This is a pretty old theme (oldest above is 2007) and I'd be surprised if people searching for property didn't now know that a lot of famous areas have 'satellites' where the £/m2 is much lower.

The major UK estate agents like Savills (quoted in the Telegraph) and Knight Frank regularly publish what are pretty biased 'Reviews' of the alpine market, concluding - surprise, surprise - that it's a great investment. Especially in locations where they have offices or links to local agents :-)

For an unbiased analysis of Alpine property trends, I don't think you can beat the UBS Alpine Property Focus 2018, which is based on about 30 more sources than the agency ones, including public records of sales:
