Tahoe Ski Areas Extend Ski Seasons Following Record Breaking Feb Snowfall

J2SkiNews posted Mar-2019

Three ski areas around Lake Tahoe in California have announced they're going to stay open longer this spring after the huge snowfalls received in February.

Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood, all owned by Vail resorts, each report they've received more snow in February 2019 than in any previous February.

Heavenly, which received 269 inches (6.8 metres) will now stay open to April 28th then re-open for a bonus 3-day-weekend May 3-5.

Northstar, which received just an inch/2.5cm less will be open to April 21st and Kirkwood, which received 271 inches (6.9 metres) will extend its season to April 14th with a bonus 3-day-weekend April 19-21.

Squaw Valley, which received 315 inches (8 metres) of snowfall last month, the most for any month in its 70-year history, stays open to at least mid-May anyway each year.

Mammoth Mountain, which also had a huge snowfall and has North America's deepest base at 5.17 metres (19 feet) had previously announced it would stay open to July 4th this year, US Independence Day.
