Staying in Sauze in March and thinking of venturing over to Mongeneve in France for the day for something different, can anyone recommend Montgeneve I've heard good reports for intermediate skiing. One question that I need answering as we have a hire car is it worth driving there instead of taking the chair lift ski links it says 35 mins by road sounds like a no brainier any experience of the chair lift day out ? Cheers

I've done it a couple of times, personally I'd do by car if possible. It seemed to take a long time to get there, quick food stop bit of a ski and return. To make sure you're in good time for the lifts. Personally, I won't be doing it again when we go in March.

Sestriere is a great place to ski, I also really like San sicario

My husband and I skied there and back last Easter. Took a fair time but enjoyable. You need to scour this forum as I believe one of the runs back is closed for the season and only a Black is an option. We have also gone by the TO coach and spent a lovely day there.

It's on my thread about Sauze in main forum

If there's a TO trip that may be the best option

I have just returned to Sauze having skied to Montgenèvre. It's well worth the trip. Fantastic scenery and great snow. I only skied one way and got the bus back to Olux station at 3.45 from the Montgenèvre tourist office in the centre of town. Although it doesn't show it on the piste map you can ski almost to the tourist office door. Once at Olux station there is a connecting bus back to Sauze. It's really simple.

How was the snow holding up in Sauze?

The snow in Sauze is generally good, however, quite a few runs are shut so you will need to check before heading out in the mornings which runs and lifts are open so you can plan your days skiing. As it's so hot at the moment the higher runs are better than the lower ones which are quite churned up and slushy in the afternoon. The snow in Montgeneve was much better than Sauze (probably due to it being higher).
