How to book for a month?

We aren't skiing this year due to daughter having A Levels . Are consoling ourselves by planning a month-long trip in 2020 when daughter hopefully safely installed in Uni.
I have only booked package trips of a week until now. I'm confident to book flights but my question to everyone is what should we look at for accommodation? I'm guessing our usual 4* hotel options would be too costly for a month. But is it likely we could get an apartment for just a month? Won't they be booked by people for the season?We haven't fixed on a destination yet so can be flexible. Also would prefer to stay in one place rather than travel around.
What do you all think?

Sounds exciting! If you get in early enough, most apartment owners will be more than happy to secure a month long booking for next year. Even more so if it doesn't straddle February half term.

Have you considered driving rather than flying? You can get a lot more stuff in a car than in a couple of suitcases.

Also, when you have decided which resort you are going to, check out what early bird deals they do on season passes. Sometimes they are half price if you buy before the season starts.

Car would let you ski more areas but am not sure you need it for 'stuff'. Air B&B flats have washing machines and or there are laundries in resort. Pack your skis, 2 sets of thermals and socks and enjoy.

Like others I would recommend you drive. No doubt a hotel would cut you a long-stay deal. Rental agencies and owners will happily rent out self-catering apartments for a month in January or March at a good rate. Obviously you can go over Christmas New year etc. but the price would be much much higher. It is very doable, we have had a family ski with us for a month for 4 years running now. Plan early, pick and area, pick a resort, decide what type of accommodation realistically suits your needs. A season pass is generally cheaper over that period. Many season passes also allow free days in nearby resorts. Think sheets, towels, books, music and films; as well as favourite spices. You may find that some areas are easier to rent in than others (French resorts have lots of over-capacity in January) whilst in Austria and Italy there are more hotels and fewer apartments.

I would be vary happy to give you a quote for a month, I have guests staying this season from New Zealand and they stay 6 weeks.
Where I am based , you can ski dozens of resorts on 1 pass. My resort is part of the Ski Circus is Austrias biggest linked resort. Just down the road we have another massive linked area- Hochkonig/Ski Amade, and also a few minutes by car and you are in Zell am See/Kaprun. Kitzbuhel is very close too. The Super pass covers about 85 resorts, many within half an hour, so should you tire of the Circus ( WHICH WOULD BE HARD ! ) then you have other options.
I don't know when you plan to go, but might I offer you some advice. After the New Year , it is very quiet on the slopes, and far less children because school holidays throughout Europe are over. At the moment our conditions are superb . So early to Mid Jan is a great time to visit. School holidays throughout the European schools starts in early Feb and then you have much busier ski days.
Alternate is end Feb, and our skiing stays open to mid/end April depending on Easter, but you will appreciate warmer days means sun and softer pistes.
If you would like any help please do not hesitate to contact me- I drive out here on a regular basis winter and summer, and bringing your car would give you the flexibility to bring much more stuff, and although you do not need it in the village, if you want to explore the ski areas then it would afford you the best option. You will however need winter tyres, although I have never used chains .
The season pass would be the perfect option too.

Most apartment owners and their agents are happy to take a month's rental. Usually, the decision is over what sort of discount to give, as 4 guaranteed weeks is attractive. You certainly don't want to be paying 4x the standard weekly rate.

If I were you, I'd just choose a preferred resort or area, and then contact some of the Agencies with the spec' of what you want (no. bedrooms, nearness to lifts, underground parking, central hot water - whatever your preferences). Alternatively, in our village, the Tourist Office is very good and would do the research for you (although not all TOs are as efficient).

The big upside of your own apartment is that you have the personal space to relax. Even if money was no object, I'm not sure I'd want to stay in a hotel for a month anyway. Driving down, you'd be able to bring a lot of what you'd need and just shop locally for perishables. For longer periods, I'm sure you'd want to take a break and go to a local market one day, do a museum/culture or visit a spa, depending on what your preferences are.

SUFFIX: Make sure they have good broadband, preferably wired (at least to the WiFi router). For that length of time you're going to want good access to streaming audio and video, I would have thought. And not just a 2Mbps microwave line shared by 20 apartments.
