Canada's 2018-19 Ski Season Starts Today

J2SkiNews posted Nov-2018

After a bit of a false start a week ago when Nakiska decided it's 'tentative Nov 3rd opening day' wasn't going to happen, four of Canada's ski resorts will open for the 2018-19 ski season today.

All three of the ski areas around Banff are scheduled to open, along with 1988 Olympic Venue Nakiska, the closest ski area to Calgary.

Three of the ski areas have had snowmaking systems at full blast the past few weeks, all except Sunshine, which doesn't have any snowmaking, but does have Canada's longest ski season, running to late May next year.

It will probably be the first to open with lifts starting turning soon after 8am local time today.

Lake Louise, which will stage the first world Cup downhill races of the 18-19 season in just over a fortnight, will also open first thing with Mt Norquay and Nakiska aiming to open around lunchtime.

There's no word on snow depths or open terrain as yet but all four have been posting very snowy images on social media.
