Really enjoying the games so far, but the moments that have disrupted the usual oasis of tranquillity in our lounge are...

  • Men's Snowboard Slopestyle - Shaun White's emotion as he edged the brilliant Ayumu Hirano for Gold.

  • Women's Super G - Ester Ledecka's complete disbelief when she won on borrowed skis.

  • Izzy Atkin and Lizzy Yarnold!

Here in Dubai there has been almost zero coverage and not much of the action has been captured on social media. Somehow I expected this to be the most digitally accessible winter Olympics but doesn't appear to be the case.

I think you might be surprised that outside of the UK is not abnormal to have a tv that is connected to internet only I.e. generation Netflix. Go to YouTube for example and almost nothing on these games. Same with good dedicated apps etc. Essentially if your a non skier and hence unlikely to pay for it you will of got no exposure to these games which sort of misses at least one of the aims of the olympics.

    I suspect...

    ...is the key phrase here.

The IOC have form for being extremely robust with their "brand protection" to the extent of going after bloggers using "their" hashtags...

Forbes wrote:It has come as somewhat of a shock to many that the IOC (the International Olympic Committee) and the USOC (the United States Olympic Committee) have warned both athletes and non-sponsoring businesses against using Olympic trademarks on social media and in their content marketing campaigns

See The full article on Forbes.com, etc.

It would be useful to provide a link here to the brand protection policy (which is at www.pyeongchang2018.com/en/brand-protection) but we're not allowed to do that! It's illegal to link to any page on the official site other than their home page (and you need to inform them even if you do that) due to the rules stated at www.pyeongchang2018.com/en/copyright-protection).

All of which has to have a considerable limiting effect on Internet and social media coverage.

    You'd think so, wouldn't you? :|

  • Surely Men's Snowboard Half Pipe? Maybe not so memorable... ;-)

Doh... fair point... although something being memorable doesn't mean I'm going to remember it! 8)
