Mayerhoffen lift

Hi, can anybody confirm the lift status in mayerhoffen nowadays?
I went there a number of years ago and remember queing at the penkenbarn for almost an hour in the mornings, then queing to get back down again at night.
I think somebody said there is now a new lift and queues are a thing of the past.
Can anybody confirm?

Hi DougR, I was in Mayrhoffen last season and can confirm the Penkenbahn has been upgraded. It is a state of the art gondola, each holding 24 seated passengers plus standing room. Still busy in the mornings and late in the day, but I don't think we took longer than 10 minutes to get on a gondola in the morning.

Beware Doug - the new lift may have eased the problem in town, but its still a horribly busy ski area up top. There are several runs that are in fact downright dangerous. Its not a place I would go back to again now, as much as I enjoyed my trips there.

I spent a week in Mayrhofen last season. The Penkenbahn is busy in the mornings at peak times but the queues move fast and definitely isn't anything that should put you off. That being said, there are areas on the slopes where queues can be quite bad. If you're a beginner/low intermediate, you'll spend a fair bit of time queuing in the main ski lesson areas and more so still if you make the error of going during half-term weeks.

If you're reasonable proficient on reds/blacks, I'd suggest mixing it up a bit. A day trip to the hintertux glacier is not to be missed, equally, try out the Ahornbahn lift a short walk away and try the runs there.

In summary, it's avoidable if you're savvy and can ski your way around without the needing as many lifts.
