There's been considerable snowfall in Eastern Austria and Slovenia, as well as in the Italian Apennine mountains as forecast models predicted.
Accumulations of up to a metre in 24 hours were reported over the weekend. Of resorts in British tour op travel brochures, Nassfeld in Carinthia, Austria, reported 60cm (two feet) of snow in 24 hours at the start of the weekend. Bad Kleinkirchheim nearby reported 65cm over 48 hours.
Abetone in Tuscany, Italy was one of several ski areas to report a metre of snow in 24 hours. It reported 50cm more the next day and a 7 day total of 1.8 metres (six feet), almost double the next nearest in Europe this week.
There were significant snowfalls of 20-40cm in the Southern Alps and Pyrenees too with some resorts further north posting smaller accumulations.
