Over 200 Powder Alarms Issued in Alps on 28 December 2018

J2SkiNews posted Dec-2017

Over 200 'powder alarms' – reporting 20cm (eight inches) or more of fresh snow in the previous 24 hours - had been issued by ski resorts across the Alps by 10am this morning, Thursday, December 28th.

Among the bigger resorts, Bormio (pictured above), Solden and Les 2 Alpes each say they have had 40cm; Flaine and Verbier report 35cm; Adelboden and Grindelwald 27cm; Les Arcs, Davos and Meribel report 25cm and St Anton, Mayrhofen and Tignes 20cm.

Cult powder ski resorts La Grave got a foot (30cm) of fresh snow so far.

Heavy snowfall has also been reported in the Pyrenees and Voss in Norway reports another 30cm of snow there.
The snowfall is expected to continue through much of the coming week.

Bormio is due to stage FIS World Cup racing this morning but due to the snow the start is currently on hold to 11.45am.
