Hi all. I'm new here-a California/Oregon transplant to the south of France. Would love to find some beginner-ish cross country and downhill spots akin to Mammoth/Mt Hood where I could take a newbie downhill/xcountry ⛷. We're about 90 minutes west of Montpellier. Paid & free pistes appreciated. Ski in/ski out? Cute little villages as opposed to mega resorts? Thanks all so much

Hi There. If you are west of Montpellier then the Pyrenees would be your best bet. There is a small resort in the Cevennes near Mont Aigoual but they are still waiting for snow http://www.pratpeyrot.fr.
I'm afraid I don't know the Pyrenean resorts, but it looks like the closest ones are in the Pyrenees Orientales. Les Angles,
or Font Romeu and Bolquere Pyrenees 2000 seem fairly close.
