More Big Ski areas Opening Early for Season, This Weekend

J2SkiNews posted Nov-2017

Several more big name ski areas have decided to open this Friday or Saturday because of good snow conditions in their locations.

In Switzerland Arosa and Wengen say they'll be opening some runs early and in Austria Saalbach and Zell am See will be doing the same.

In the Pyrenees Spain's Baqueira Beret and Messela ski areas are also opening on Saturday.

In North America early openers tomorrow or Saturday include whistler and Mt Bachelor, the latter with its earliest opening in more than a decade.

These areas follow resorts like Verbier, Kitzbuhel, Panorama and Schladming which already opened early a week or more ago and in most cases are continuing to re-open at weekends until their scheduled opening dates.

It is also reaching the date when other ski areas that generally open early in the pre-season reach their scheduled opening date anyway. Obergurgl opened today and Val Thorens will open Saturday, with Obertauern due to follow next week.

Trysil opens Saturday, too. Only one or two slopes, though.

Zermatt looking pretty good. Just bought our ski passes. 1,671 CHF = £1,285 for family of 4. Ouch! At least our accommodation is cheap though as we go the week before Christmas.
