Mt Hutt has ended an extended 2017 ski season today with a 335cm base (11 foot) base - currently the world's deepest.
The New Zealand ski centre ended winter 2017 in style with a Hawaii-themed day and issued this statement.
"That's it thats all! We hope everyone who came up today had a great last day with us we sure had a lot of fun and there were a lot of great Hawaiian vibes going on. Thanks to all of you who came up and made the most of this epic winter with us, and of course a big thanks to all the staff at Mt Hutt who made it all possible! We'll see you all again next year."
The only ski areas still open in New Zealand, and believed to be the only ski areas still open in the southern hemisphere are Turoa and Whakapapa on Mt Ruapehu.
Both currently say they are open for one more week, to the 22nd October, although with around a 2m base at each they could stay open longer. It was snowing there earlier today and some years Turoa stays open to 'Snowvember'. On the other hand temperatures are forecast to reach 16C with rain by next weekend.
