Single skiers

Hi

Been a while, sorry for my absence!

Does anyone know of any groups/companies that specialise in single person ski holidays?

Unfortunately it's not looking like I'll be being joined by my wife anymore on any future ski trips (or even a trip to Tesco...) so I am looking for any other options.

I'm a school teacher and am semi-planning a trip to Bormio (I did a season there in 2010) for the World Cup and New Year this season (snow dependant) but am wondering if anyone is going away either over Christmas/New Year as another option in a more snow-sure resort!

For companies, take a look at Hofnar (Morzine) and Cold Fusion (Chamonix) but also look for rooms in the larger independent chalets; can be a little hit-and-miss for singles but if you're fairly easy-going could be a good bet. E.g. Ski Bonjour's chalet in Tignes Le Lac; not expensive, has a bar, and the dining room has large tables so groups tend to get naturally mixed up and you'll get chatting to folk. Probably applies to many of the larger chalets.

If you've not been on here for a while, you might have missed that we now have a (basic) list of Who's Going Where compiled from people's trip plans.

And do keep an eye on the forum; we regularly get posts from people looking to fill spaces on group trips.

Didn't realise that - literally had been about 6yrs since I've been on here!

I'll check out the links and see if anyone is advertising single rooms etc.

Don't mind skiing on my own - that's more or less what if be doing in bormio anyway because everyone else would be instructing probably.

It is difficult to find single rooms but if you are prepared to organise it yourself it can be done .. I usually went on tripadvisor and looked up hotels in the place I wanted to go to and then went to the hotels web site ..you will usually find that they do have single rooms..or try the tourist office for the town and ask them ..they are usually quite efficient..doing it yourself is easy and can be cheaper than the tour operators especially for single rooms

Move booked a flight to Geneva (£110 return from Edinburgh inc skis) as it was so cheap and will sort out a place according to the snow when the season starts.

I posted on the solutions room - a website I used to use and it gave a bunch of options on chalets. Just need to see where the snow is!

Your predicament sounds very familiar. Seems I have heard this lament a few times in the past few years.
My wife and I (she belligerently) are in Cervinia February and March and have a spare room which we were hoping to rent out to recoup a bit of money. If interested then let me know. Me - retired teacher and ski nut. The better half - loveable person. Sounds like it would work.

I appreciate that you've referenced companies/groups, and may dislike skiing alone, but if you're prepared to self-cater or eat out/take-away, you may find that there are 1-room apartments that are good value. I just took a quick look at the agency that rents our apt out and they have a 1-room for CHF500-750/week (£385-£577) and that's in Switzerland - I imagine France and Italy will be even cheaper.
