We're off to Åre in mid-February. Anyone got any advice? Best runs/pistes? Lifts to avoid? Pistes to avoid? Best bars? We'll have a car so will be able to get to the Duved ski area easily.

Yeah ,save more money as fast as you can :)
It was -25 when we last went in Feb so wrap up warm .
It wasn't busy so there wasn't any waiting at lifts .
We only ate out a few times and it was £16 for a Guinness and £28 for an 8oz steak .
Can't wait to go again though as the snow was unlike any I've boarded on .
Hope you have a great time .

Hi Dobby,

We're off to Are mid Feb too! We're going half term week so from 13th Feb for a week.

We've been about 5 years ago at Easter and really enjoyed it. It wasn't cheap but we stayed half board so not too bad. It's a big resort though not all pistes are linked. I think Duved is only accessible from the ski bus.

I can't wait to go back, especially as I'm a better skier now so will get more out of it.

Whereabouts are you staying? I guess you've booked it separately as no tour operators go anymore.

Interesting and timely post. We're still debating about our half term trip. I'm keen to avoid the mad rush in the french alps and we can fly to Norway/Sweden from our local airport (Humberside) via Amsterdam which is a big plus for us. Like Dobby, we've skied and enjoyed Hemsedal previously although I think it would now feel too small. From doing some reading Are looks to be about twice the size of Hemsedal. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Dobby - where are you flying into? Also who are you booking the car through?

Cheers!

We booked through Ski Safari. Staying v close to bottom of V8 lift in apartment. We are flying into Trondheim on Sunday night. I think that the hire car will be thru Sixt - that's a guess. Driving to resort - we have a car in resort and aim to make use of it!

Bedrock - you may have problems getting anywhere to stay in Trysil if you're thinking of Trysil - nothing at all when we tried to book through Skistar.

Thanks Dobby. Trondheim seems to make sense. We use sixt when we are abroad and it looks like there is an airport office. We've used Scandinavian Dreams previously for accommodation and I'll see what's on offer.

Hi Bedrock. Drive to Are from Trondheim airport looks simple - one road, the one to Ostersund/lund

Can't seem to find a decent hi res post map to have a look at. As a family, we have 'issues' with drag lifts, particularly t bars. Is it possible to get to most areas with chairs?
