We went to Saas Fee maybe 5 years ago and are thinking of a return, a bit worried about the Swiss Frank / Pound exchange rate it wasnt cheap back in 2011 is it really pricey now?

www  Life is short, so ski more!

We were there in February 2015 and the short answer - is unfortunately, yes. We find that Switzerland has now priced itself, certainly outside of our range. Maybe others will respond differently as it all depends on how deep your pockets are of course.

We went to Saas-Fee in March 2015. We didn't notice it being any more expensive than the UK for things like a coffee and cake - similar to prices charged in UK high street coffee chains. We went on a package which was half board so we only had to buy lunch and snacks, and prices seemed reasonable depending on what you bought. The one thing we did think was expensive was the lift pass because it covers the whole area - Saas-Fee, Saas-Grund and Saas Almagell, which for us was a waste of money. Also, bad weather closed the upper slopes for a couple of days so we felt we'd paid a lot of money just to ski on the village nursery slopes.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity

Saas Fee is vulnerable to mountain closures because of its aspect and altitude. One time, we were having lunch up near Maste 4 and the ski patrol ordered everyone off the mountain due to an impending storm. Saas Fee is one of the less expensive Swiss resorts but that doesn't mean it's not pricey and the lift pass is very expensive. I've stayed there in chalets and hotels and the chalet tends to be the most economic although many are a long, long way from the lifts and slopes. Having said all that, I love the skiing and the fact it is so snowsure (brilliant for April short breaks). And you're missing out if you ignore Saas Grund - a very interesting ski area for a day trip. The fundamental problem, though, is the current exchange rate between sterling and the Swiss Franc!

And is Swiss Frank related to Swiss Tony? -)
