Plan to fly into Geneva from Dublin on Dec 4th for a 4 day Skiing weekend.
Will probably hire a car, Would like to remain reasonably close to Airport.
Chamonix for obvious reasons ticks many of the boxes, Hotel prices seem very reasonable! Why???

Would appreciate helpful comments regarding alternative resorts.
Planning this trip is literally keeping my wife and I sane.

Very likely because that'll be before the ski season starts?

Official opening dates usually get confirmed around September time but I'd expect the full Chamonix opening will probably be 19th December, with Grands Montets (Argentiere) being open a week before that.

It's entirely possible that individual areas (including GM) will open at weekends before then if they get the snow but no way you can guarantee that any more than about a week before.

If you're driving you can afford to be flexible anyway; either book hotels that you can cancel easily or leave the booking until you know where's going to be open.

Cervinia, Verbier or Zermatt are other early possibilities with only an hour or two extra driving each way.

Worst case is Tignes (less than 3 hours drive and you're very unlikely to be stuck in traffic on those dates) which is about as snow-sure as you can get at that time.

Yes, Millstreet is probably right. Cheap as chips because it's a fair chance the resort will not be open on this date, plus the chances of good snow cover in early December is dodgy. You might consider Tignes which has it's glacier open most of the year for skiing but the downside is that it would be a two and a half hours drive from Geneva. Perhaps, if it is possible, plan to go 2nd/3rd week December when many resorts will be open and prices will still be very reasonable. Finally, if cost is a consideration look at the second week in January-all resorts open and you could then consider La Clusaz in France. Nice town, good skiing and only 45 minutes drive from Geneva.

Only place I would book at that time of year would be Cervinia, in which case Geneva not the best airport.
