My family will be in Rome from 22Nov until 30Nov. We have 3days downtime from 26-29th. We have been to Rome numerous times so think we would like to head north to ski. Any suggestions?

Firstly, lucky you. Secondly, I have not been skiing there but I have researched ski areas around Rome. There appear to be half a dozen located 120-180km from the city. The three largest with the most modern infrastructure (6-10 lifts including some quad chairs etc) look to be Campo Felice (www.campofelice.it), Campitello Matese (www.campitello-matese.it) and Terminillo (www.monteterminillo.net). Whether any of them, or one of the smaller places (just with 5 or less drag lifts each) are open as early as late November I am not sure I'm afraid. I have old notes they open for the season in December but maybe if the weather is cold in Nov they would open earlier than that?

Cervinia opens on November 1. There are some resorts closer but they are not in the North of the country and not very high, so while is nice to hope for an early, cold and snowy winter it's probably not very wise to count on skiable snow at Rome's latitude that early.
