How late in the year can you ski to Valtournenche base?

Very excited to ski (probably snowboard actually) for my first time in Europe on April 4 and 5, 2014. I am staying in Valtournenche and wondering if I should expect to be able to ski right down to Valtournenche at end of the day, or is the snow usually gone on the bottom of the mountain by then -- and if so, do you then take the gondola down?
