So I am sat at home recovering from a wrist/thumb operation with the full intention of skiing in February. The real downside is I work in a school so half term is the only option. I have been looking at all kinds of options, tour operators, chalets etc. the costs are flipping ridiculous, this year it cost over £300 per person more for the half term week. Changing jobs is a conversation that occurs frequently but I really enjoy my job and am loathe to change so I will have to cough up. So where to go? Have already skied..... Andorra, Pila, Les Deux and Morzine. Would happily return to Morzine or similar except hubby going with work in Jan so don't think he will be keen to return so soon. Looking for a largish area for intermediate skiers with an advanced skier and boarder. Accomodation.....open to suggestions. Have done self catering up to all inclusive. Aypur knowledge is appreciated. :D

Champoluc/Gressoney (Italy) could fit the bill. Fairly reasonable pricing, excellent intermediate skiing, reasonable boarding and good off piste in the Gressoney/Alagna area. Try Crystal brochure or there is another English based company in Champoluc, can't quite remember the name but something like Ski2?. Goodle Champoluc/skiing and it should come up.

I did Champoluc/Monterosa in January, truly beautiful area but theres not a huge amount on piste, the main attraction is off the sides. However, we had a superb week and its high and cold too. Stayed in Champoluc with Crystal, Hotel de Champoluc thoroughly recommended for its position next to the main lift.
Alternatively, I can endorse Alpe d'Huez massively. Some great chalets in the Altiport area all ski in ski out, or we stayed in the hotel with Ski Total/Esprit which was excellent in the old town.
My personal favourite for lots of slopes, large area, cheaper costs, and just somewhere a little different is Serre Chevalier. Monetier or Villeneuve are the old rustic resorts. Ski Miquel have 2 properties in Monetier, and other firms have chalets and hotels around the area, I cant recommend it enough. Alternatively get flights into Grenoble or Lyon and pick up a car and book direct with the serre-cheavlier.com website.
Outside of France, I am off to Bad Gastein in January, looks a great area, off the beaten track so not crowded, and cheap being Austria.
I have skied Mayrhofen 6 times, lively town and good skiing but it can get busy in holiday times.
Maybe consider Solden in Austria or the Dolomites in italy, especially Arabba and Selva.

I think Andyhull has a good point - maybe look at the operator and not any specific resort or accommodation.
Look for best value during half term.
It could be worth talking to an agent who will know what a variety of operators have going?
I have used both igluski and skisolutions with good results and levels of service (no involvement!).
