I've managed to narrow it down (by hotel availability) to Les Carroz, Les Houches and Chatel.

In what order would you recommend these for snowboarders, father & son. Easy access from Geneva/short transfer, slope area, general all round choice for a short break?

Thanks everyone.

(Looking for some advice please.

Planning a suprise weekend trip for my husband & son (both snowboarders).

It will be into Geneva because of the favourable flight prices. He's done chamonbix before and enjoyed it - I was thinking of Les Houches as a resort to book a hotel in.

Can anyone advise on Les Houches and recommend a hotel? Also any other resorts that are within a short distance from Geneva for the first weekend in March.

Thanks everyonein advance. )

Recommend Samoens. 1 hour from Geneva at 700 meters. Quick lifts up to 1600 metes to get you into the Grand Massif. All levels of skiing/boarding
Wonderful traditional French village.

I agree with Samoens - been there only once before but fell in love with the village. Plenty to ski and to do in general. Really easy to get to from Geneva - we hired a car and was simple route. My family stayed at the Neige et Roc hotel which has this fantastic on site restaurant with the most amazing food, so maybe one to try? We went with a small company peak retreats. Hope this helps.

What about Les Carroz? It's also part of the Grand Massif, easy to drive to from Geneva, a nice village. I think Samoens, Les Carroz, Morillon and Flaine are all linked anyway, so plenty of mileage.

Any knowledge on Chatel? Seems a short transfer & accommodation available. Samoens is a great choice but I can't find availability.

I can recommend Chatel. 1 hour transfer by car, little longer by transfer minibus. Fantastic ski area with great links into Avoriaz, which if you're a boarder is second to non apparently (i'm not by the way). Not sure on hotels as i stay in catered chalets but there are quite a few. Free bus takes you to Linga or pre la joux areas. Hotel may also have a mini bus service. Theres also super chatel area directly accessible from the centre of the village, although there are a few drag lifts up here, which i understand is a bit of an inconvenience for boarders. Traditional village atmosphere. Great snow record. No mass market tour operators so maintains its French autheticity. Go for it!
