So there's at least 10cm of snow here in Bristol and still falling. Accepting that skiing anything rocky will ruin my skis how much snow do you need to ski on a grassy slope?

Anyone going out? Any suggestions for particularly good hills around north bristol?

I think you need at least a foot of compacted snow but it could be fun keep to hilly roads I'd say so you may have to walk there just don't break your neck lol

I guess a tractor and a long rope would make for an improptu rope tow!

Please don't look upon this as the potenoally dumb question it is, but : where are the South Downs? In the south no doubt .... I hear there is about 3 feet of snow down and a 4x4 that serves as a lift. What towns are near this area?
Thanks !

We, in Nova Scotia, are still awaiting some consistency in winter weather. Yesterday +12°C and today -10°C with wind chill. The ski slopes are a sheet of ice. It has been suggested to get a plane ticket and get to the South Downs ! But where are they?

We have snow in the UK but 3 feet unlikely in the South Downs!
This is where they are.

Thanks for the info Dids. :D
I did find a youtube video of flying gliders over the ridge of the South Downs but I didn't search any farther. The news of 3 ft of snow came from a fellow from Eastborne via a sailing internet game called Live Skipper. And the link you provided shows "the 7 sisters near Eastborne". Your reply is much appreciated!

I ski at Ski Martock, a small hill, in Nova Scotia. Have a look. Only a few people there today; and being a sunny but cold and windy day tells me there is lot ice and cold wind chill effects. http://www.martock.com/webcam.php

I think he might have meant 3 inches Mike! I'm just to the North of Eastbourne and I was all set to wax my skis and head for the Downs when the snow stopped falling... :(
