I wouldn't normally be painting Alpine at this time of year, but a month back, the family were gathered at ours for my younger son's birthday, and while the rest of the family were through in the conservatory, birthday boy and I were finishing two or three bottles of red.
"You know Dad, I really like that painting you did of the path down to the other side of the mountain."
"OK, I'll fix it"
I knew the picture he meant, and I later searched among the hundreds of Niederau paintings. I found it, but it was not a standard mount size ~ big PITA, having to get a special mount and frame.
So, I determined to do a copy:
Preparation.
The sketch.
Nearly finished.
Framed and temporarily on my Niederau wall.

Carol, over the J2ski years, so many people have said that to me. I take the view that anyone can learn to do this. It does help that I am am an engineer, and drawing has been a form of communication.
Forby that, I still believe that all J2skiers could try and draw what they see, adjust, and get a result. Keep trying, and improve.
Drawing and painting are two skill sets, both can be learned. It fits in well with ski life.
Dids, nobody would lose! Well, maybe if a number of J2skiers tried, I might lose!
Although I have always drawn, as part of my engineering work, I have painted watercolours for only 12 years. People pick up skills quite quickly.
Oh, and none of you are getting to see the draw full of failures!

:D And you still have the original!
I can see why your son likes it Dave. He has good taste.
The Church one looks pretty good too, not that I am saying the others don't, I just particularly like the Church one.

Great paintings Dave, I still have the cards you gave me last last season. Tennladen Barns is my favourite.
