Hi just bought a new coat to keep me warm when I go to Montgenevre in January ( Rab Neutrino Endurance) and got to thinking about things I bought whilst in resort that at the time seemed a good idea! The worst was a reindeer hide bought in Ruka Lapland the thing just kept dropping hairs all over and was not popular with my wife apparently it's because the hairs are hollow and brittle. Still on the up side I managed to sell it at a car boot and even came out with a profit! So anyone else bought bad gifts and where? Coat is great and at a good price!

Brought a cast iron cooking pot back from South Africa, in my hand luggage, in 1992 - still got it, never been used.

But on the skiing front the daftest purchase was a full 6 day 3 Valleys pass. In Courchevel for the week, weather closed in, only got to the top of the Saulire once....

Mind you the powder was epic!

Now I would look at the forecast before buying.

Might be worth weighing it in for scrap to help compensate for ski pass!

Could I get advice on is 3 Valleys pass worth it if going to Meribel? (I'm heading out in January for a week)

Do they do an 'explorer' style pass? When I went to La Plagne they had an 'explorer' ski pass that gave 1 day out of 6 at les Arcs (next resort), it was slightly more expensive than local pass but not full area for 6 days

3 Valleys is so well linked that a full area pass is a must unless you are a beginner and only staying local.
Skiing in all 3 valleys in the same day is easy.

Buying gifts for those left behind doesn't at all make up for leaving them behind... apparently :?: . So now I have to take the family too.

At least I no longer have to spend 30 euros on toffees in a tin shaped like a milk churn with a naff sticker of an Alps village stuck on crooked by the shop keeper, while he laughs at the stupid english man who feels guilty for leaving his kids/wife at home.
if I'm not skiing then I'm kayaking.
