First time in Claviere flying in Sunday - any tips or suggestions on best runs etc. looks like snow cover is still okay with snow forecast at the weekend???? Usually ski in Bansko, so this really is a treat - as long as there is still snow around of course!

Hi Karen,
I haven't beem to Bansko so can't compare. But I have been to Claviere and really loved it.
It's not a large slki area in itself and although part of the milky way it's quite a trek for a day.
Whem we went some of our group got a taxi to Sestriere and skied tthere and Sauze D'Oulx for the day.

We went about 2nd week of March and it was freezing and we had a lot of fresh snow.
It can get very slushy at the bottom of the runs in village, but the snow was great on top.

We stayed in Passero Pellegrino hotel, which was quite nice.
The slopes start right in town and everything is pretty convenient.
You can go to Mongenevre, but when we went it wasn't part of the lift pass - it might be different now.

I hope you have a great time.

If you're good skiers, get the full lift-pass you can explore the Milky Way right over through Sansicario to Sestriere and back into France for Montgenevre. Definately head into Montgenevre though - it's not far and there's a choice of two routes to get over.

Thanks guys - will definitely pop over to Montgenevre. I'd like to perfect my parallel skiing whilst I'm over there so I can 'swoosh' like the best of them - but I don't want lessons everyday. Are there local ski instructors/schools that will take me for a single or maybe a couple of lessons?

Spot on. Claviere links into the Milky way and theres great skiing to be had over at Sestriere where its higher and better snow usually. MontG has some nice terrain. Taken a day down at Serre Chevalier, just down the valley past MontG, the best skiing in the area by miles.

The ski school is down by the nursery slopes. Probably best to book a 2 hour private lesson. There should be some fresh snow at the weekend and lower temperatures for your arrival.

The best thing about Claviere are the mountain restaurants. I highly recommend the Baita Gimont, La Coche is an old favourite, and the restaurant between the tennis court and football pitch at the west end of the village near the golf course (sorry can't remember its name).
