Hi - Can anyone suggest some companies I can look at to get reasonable ski holiday insurance for when I go boarding in the US. I normally have winter sports cover on my annual holiday policy but when I actually bothered to read the small print I realised that I wasn't really covered for much at all - thank goodness nothing has happened to me on the mountain! I am not looking for really expensive holiday insurance just something that will cover me if I have an accident.
Thanks :) :(

Before everyone else says it I think insurance has been done to death already. Bandit has provided alot of great info over the yrs on insurance. If you do a search on it you should find the massive thread from last yr. Id like to think there is enough reading in their for you...

I used 'Protect My Bubble'.

----------------------------------------------------

Cover: Premier Single Trip Inc Winter Sports
Cost: £12.77 (Inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax)
Destination: France
Period of Cover: 01/02/2012 Single Trip, Duration: 5 Days

Medical Expenses Cover: £10000000
Personal Liability: £2000000
Cancellation Cover: £5000
Baggage Cover: £2000
Personal Accident Cover: £25000

-----------------------------------------------------

This has £50 excess which seems pretty reasonable compared to a lot of others.

There is no mention in the wording about having to wear helmets etc. All seem pretty standard.

The one thing I did notice however is if I have an accident that requires me to go to hospital, I HAVE to ring a specific number that will (I think) list all of the hospitals in that area for which I will be covered. I guess I'd better let my bro know his, in case I'm knocked unconscious.

Smokey Barr, the list of Hospitals would scare me. Imagine asking the Helicopter if they wouldn't mind diverting to xxxxx. You are not going to get a choice, expect to be delivered! Will you be expected to then organise your own taxi/ambulance to another hospital?

Probably, but I'd be surprised if there was that big a choice of hospitals for it to be a problem. I really don't mind where I'm going as long as I'm in a hospital.

Having said that, I may have misread the small print. Looks as though I just need to call 'Emergency Assistant Service' as soon as I'm in hospital, (In-patient Treatment Abroad) not to chose a hospital.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 24 hour Emergency Assistance Service provides immediate help in the event of an insured person's illness or injury whilst travelling abroad – they provide a 24 hour multi-lingual emergency service 365 days a year and can be contacted by telephone or fax.

In the event of any illness, injury, accident or hospitalisation which requires:
Inpatient treatment, anywhere in the world you must contact:
One Assist
Tel: 0113 318 8120
Fax: 0113 318 8122

Outpatient treatment……

Outpatient treatment, in North America, The United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, you must…….

One Assist or Healthwatch S.A. may be able to guarantee costs on your behalf. When contacting One Assist or Healthwatch S.A. please state that your insurance is provided by UK General Insurance Ltd and quote the appropriate scheme name and reference number…

Note: You must retain receipts for medical and additional costs incurred and you are responsible for any
policy excess which should be paid by you at the time of treatment.

In-patient Treatment Abroad
If you go into hospital you must contact One Assist immediately. If you do not, this could mean that we will not provide cover or we will reduce the amount we pay for medical expenses.

Outpatient Treatment Abroad
If you require outpatient treatment please contact the appropriate Emergency Assistance Company as detailed above. If the Emergency Assistance is being provided by Healthwatch SA, they will ensure that the
treating doctor or Clinic is aware of the following instructions…

I think you'll find the added winter sports just adds skis lift passes piste closure etc. The actual medical insurance is there anyway! I use insurefor.com. I et annual travel insurance for a family of 4, including winter sports, for £68 and then get £13 cashback for going through a cashback site, so £55 for 4 of us, which works out at £14 each for a year including winter sports. You get up to 17 days skiing with that

I would advise people to read their policy wording very carefully.

Having to call the 24 hour emergency service, is something I could have easily overlooked, and would have cost me big time in the event of having to make a claim.

These leaches will do ANYTHING to avoid paying out!
