Hi all newbie here just wondering if there are any must do things to try or more importantly don't bother with things in Serre Chevalier. Off there for the first time in January. Went to Montgenevre last year excellent place with lots of runs to choose from not much après though. Cheers for your thoughts

ooooh yes please, me too!
SC in March for the first time as well.
If it doesn't work I'll know who to whinge at
Anyone got the links for those two excellent reviews, Tony and Wickers I think but I can never find anything in the archives.

DO ski over into Monetier
DO ski across into Briancon
DONT just spend your time above Villeneuve and Chantmerle
DO visit the Peyra-Juana cafe on the Monetier side and go to the toilet inside, and say hi to the Marmot for me
DO let us know what the new Vallons chair lift is like, and then have it off full throttle down the Cucumelle run
DO visit Bar LaGrotte as soon as it starts snowing as its half price beer (bottom of Aravet lift in Villeneuve)
DONT queue up for lifts at Villeneuve, take the Pontillas gondola up and avoid any possible queues in the morning
DONT eat in any of the new places around the Villeneuve base station. They are soulless and expensive.
DO eat in Villeneuve village, plenty of lovely rustic restaurants, especially the one on the bridge with the veranda by the river, I forget its name
DONT cry when you get off the mountain with sore feet and get on the wrong bus. Mrs H can explain that one )
DO get up early and beat everyone up
DO have lunch at Serre Ratier, good choice and reasonable prices
DONT ski too fast on the natural half pipe above Briancon under the Rocher Blanc chair so that you go straight up in the air and fall on your backside whilst everyone is laughing at you from the chair above
DO make an effort to go over to Aiguilette chair and ski both the fantastic and deserted reds underneath it. Its a little isolated and you may have to take a crappy little green to get over there but its well worth it.
DONT worry about what people say about there being a lot of old lifts, its fine. There are a couple of drags, and the long one to the Prorel peak is a killer but it opens up a lot more skiing on the Briancon side.
DO come back on here and tell us what a fantastic time you had.
DONT make me jealous.
