Swiss Railways have also increased their prices from December. Check your journey on the Swiss Rail website. Some journeys are cheaper to buy a ticket on arrival.

On a Saturday in December, the return fare from Basel Euro Airport to Grindelwald is 141.20 Swiss (that's £97.60 in British pounds!).

If, as Bandit says, there's a fare rise on top of that, then you're probably better off with the SwissPass.

The question really is ......why Grindelwald and not Wengen or Mürren??

I preferred to stay in Grindelwald because of; ease of rail transfer from airport; bigger range of cheaper accommodation; the added bonus of the First ski area - and the chance to ski into Wengen and visit Murren!

ease of rail t/fer from airport -
Interlaken Ost to Grindelwald: 34mins, Interlaken to Murren: 46mins ===== 12 minutes difference !!

cheaper accomdation : if you are looking for that, stay in Lauterbunnen at least it looks nice and keeps the snow...lol

added bonus of the First Ski area : if you say so

all in jest :)

Mürren -

watch out for that car in Mürren

I don't see much difference between Wengen's skiing and Grindelwald's skiing (apart from First, which is a thoroughly pleasant area). Bit more life in Grindelwald than Lauterbrunnen and I wasn't going to put this, but you provoked me: I bird I know lives in Grindelwald!
