Hi all,

So to give you the background to my "silly" question, I'm being made redundant in a couple of weeks time, and wish to bring my darling OH for a week as a treat. No need to feel sorry for me, I start a new job on Nov 1st  We have just returned from Spain (33C, beautiful), so I was thinking an early sneaky ski week would be great (we have Mayrhofen booked for late January) Is it possible to ski in Europe at this time? Where would be snow sure?

Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Tignes, Zermatt and Hintertux should all be open for starters, although the area skiable will depend on what happens between now and then...

Keep an eye on the snow reports and book when ready!

Excellent idea
You are after glacier skiing which will be limited but can be fun.
Just choose your country of choice and have a look at which glaciers will be open. Do check that the skiing is open as resorts vary as to what and when skiing is possible.
For example (and the only glacier I have skied) Tignes will be open during October. Whether anything more than the glacier, runs back to resort level for example, is open is in the lap of the snow gods ...
But do expect some varied weather - can be anything from horrific to gorgeous.
have fun and good luck.

I've skied the glaciers of Tignes, Val d'Isere, Saas Fee, Zermatt and Hintertux mostly out of season, and the only one I'd truly recommend to you is the Hintertux. Big area, big lifts, high altitude resort (for Austria) and the best snowboarding I've ever had in October. 3 years ago arrive in Tux on the 6th October, it's snowing, wake up next day 80cm of fresh - at the hotel!!!

Tux was great in mid October last year.
