Hey everyone.

I have been skiing for anout a year on and off so i am not the best skier in the world. I was wondering if anybody had any tips on how to get confident practicing on a dry ski slope. Such as getting parallel turns good enough to feel confident and so on.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks Liam.

ok liam if you would like to tell me what sort of turns you are doing now. i.e. snowplow, or begining carve, or paralall i will try to repiey . On the other hand, I really feel you should invest in in a ski school investment, in terms of assesment and lesson.I ski double blacks when possible but i started with lessons, preferably private lessons, there ain'nt noshort cuts. get fit, learn and rejoice.

Inline skating is a great way to improve your ski technique in the off season.
Buy good skates with 80mm plus wheels and a full set of pads/hemet (you'll be wasting your time if you are frightened to fall down). Don't go out and pound the pavements for miles. Find a car park / parking lot with a slight gradiant and learn to carve turns, wide at first, then tighter. learn to pump your turns, that is extend your legs through the turn. learn to slalom on one skate. eventually learn to seperate your upper and lower body. Practice often and when you get back on your skis you will be amazed at you new level of ability.

The best way to get better at skiing is to ski a lot. Like, every day the ground is slick. It's all in your balance. The more you ski the better your balance will be. Lessons are good to make it look good and help you understand what you're trying to accomplish, but, no amount of instruction will help you without the balance gained from skiing a lot. This is true, true, true.

Seearby has a point, however skiing alot if you are making the same mistakes will not improve your skiing.
You will become the "forever intermediate"

Take lessons with same instructor every month. Focus on ONE aspect of skiing!

There are three basic mistakes 90% of skiers make.
1. Leaning back too much. Pressure should at all times ( experts will disagree) be on big toe.
2. Keeping hands in front. Never but never have your arms behind body. We call it the "late" arm turn!

3.Most men force the ski to turn" They muscle their skis. The symptom is aching thighs at 10 AM. sore back and red spoits om shins.
Let ski do work for you! How? Take lessons! You can do it the hard way and ski your way or the easy way! Lessons!

PS
Forgot the very populat error that all beginners do!
Do not look at your ski tips!
