Ok so im thinking about next season already and we have decided we are going to drive it next season, go for around 2 weeks, experiance a few different resorts one of which must be in austria for a full week.

so my question to you guys is what would you do if you had this criteria? where would you stay in austria and what else would you visit for a coupld of days at a time? i dont care about snow sure right now this is ideal world situation.

your suggestions please lovely people.

thanks

Ewan

If you draw a circle around Insbruck you will have a fair choice within a couple of hours drive - Mayrhofen, Zell am Zee, Obergurgle, St Anton, Lech, Kitzbuhel and if you want you could drop down into Italy to Madonna Di Campiglio in the Dolomites to name but a few of the options.

A few nights here and a few there should make a cracking ski trip.

I'm with Andy on this. That central area has some cracking ski stations in, and you can easily get about. I'd perhaps add in a few Swiss resorts to go at too in the same broad area, try and take in a couple of days minimum at St Moritz - it really will be worth it, trust.
Defo get around the Dolomites too.
Sounds exciting, let us know what you go for.

I remeber having the same idealistic dream, until my OH asked ~ " Do you really want to live out of a sutcase for three weeks? She's a real passion-killer! But she was right. So we drove from Scotland through to Switzerland, skied at Klosters and Davos. Then moved on, one day at a small Swiss village, then on to Arrabba. The Dolomites are really pleasant skiing, with their own special landscape, ~ interesting for me, as a painter. Then we drove over the Brenner Pass, and into Tyrol, and stayed at Niederau.

I have done other trips of a similar ilk.

You will spend a lot of money on lift passes. Should you decide to stay in one area, say, as suggested aroind the Innsbruck area, or around the Kitzbuhel area, you will be able to buy a pass to cover a wide area. Cost more than a local pass, but much cheaper than a string of separate passes.

cool thanks for the suggestions. our original idea was to go so st anton and spend a week there, couple of days in livingo then over to tignes for a couple of and maybes les arcs. however i was looking for some of the smaller resorts were you might not want to spend a whole week. doing a fair bit of driving dosnt bother me for the right resorts.

Yes with the majority on this - into Innsbruck to avoid crowds and look for something different i would go to Stuben and then onto the Montafon Valley schruns and then over the border to Switzerland and onto the Dolomites. Wow, thats getting the juices going any room for another one!

Flew back today from Geneva. Just skied this last week in Chamonix and Les Contamines, as the snow was very poor in Megeve where we were staying. The weather was so so warm the snow had all melted. Amazing scenery around Chamonix. . Mont Blanc area is awesome!! I recommend.

For best value re ski pass look at Supersalzburg ski pass - so many places to choose from.
Remember winter tyres are law in Austria , and doing some driving around snow chains are a good idea too.
Also think on that many places only like to sell Sat to Sat as it maximises the occupancy.
Have a nice time !
