Ernen, Switzerland (1235m to 2292m)
A typical small ski area that was unusually rescued from bankruptcy in 2007 when a British investor paid one Swiss France (less than a pound, dollar or a Euro) to take over running it. The village has been saved for the time being and the new owner has plans for new hotels and higher altitude lifts.
