Skiing in Adelboden
The ski area of Adelboden is split in five sectors connected up by a first class lift system making this one of the largest and most attractive ski areas in Switzerland. You'll find over 210km (131miles) of slopes served by 72 lifts. Beginning at an altitude of 1053m and ranging to 2375m. Slopes are predominantly north-facing thus ensuring good snow cover throughout the season.
The main network of lifts is accessed from the resort via a gondola from Oey which transports skiers to Sillerenbühl 1974m, and the centre of the Adelboden-Lenk ski area. From here you can access a variety of terrain including the treacherous World Cup piste at Chuenisbergli, an extremely challenging black run which is the now classic Adelboden venue for the FIS World Cup series. Only big names like Sweden's Ingemar Stenmark and Austria's Hermann Maier have made it onto the medals podium here.
Snowboarding in Adelboden
The Engstligenalp has the one and only natural board park featuring natural pipes and jumps and is a training area for many professional boarders.
For freestylers the Hahnenmoos snowboard park is the place to meet - complete with obstacle course, boardercross, air park, slide zone, first timers snowboard piste and testing centre as well as an eating area with bar, grill and DJ.
There is even a mountain hotel, the Berghotel Hahnenmoospass, an ideal base for boarders who like to make first tracks in the morning. Crazy Sports Ltd are the official snowboard school for Adelboden and they offer private and group lessons as well as board hire.
Adelboden Aprés Ski
Lively nightlife with a good choice of nightclubs and bars and an informal, fun atmoshphere. The Berna discotheque is a favourite with younger people while the Alte Taverne is of universal appeal. The nightclub here always seems to be busy - it was converted from six very old wooden houses into a barn-style room with a gallery overlooking the dance floor and enough seating for 200.
Raclettes and fondues are available in nearly all the restaurants and for Italian food, especially good pizzas there's Kreuz and Alfredo. The Alte Taverne has live bands, and the Arle Bar and Time Out Pub have attractive aperitif bars. Some of the restaurants have Swiss music.
