Skiing in Tatranská Lomnica

Tatranská Lomnica, Slovakia (785m to 2632m)

Founded in 1872 with the first hotel to be built being the Lomnica, followed by the Majestic Grand Hotel Praha, which today still has the highest service standards. Since the early 1990s there has been extensive modernisation and a two-stage gondola lifts ascent in succession from the resort at 903m to serve the highest skiing at 2196m. In addition an aged 1950s cable car, which has such limited capacity ascents on it reportedly need to be booked in advance, continues up to the highest point at 2,634m on Lomnicky Stit, the second highest mountain in the Tatras. It is not possible to ski down from the top however and the upper slopes of the ski area reached by the gondola is on black pistes above the treeline, served by the resort's double chair. A red run descends from 1751m beneath the upper section of the gondola. Anyone who can only manage blue runs will need to get off at the mid-station of the gondola at 1173m and head down from there. There's a second blue run in a separate location across the resort at Jamy, served by the resort's only drag lift.
