Seefeld
The Austrian ski resort of Seefeld is part of the Olympia Region Seefeld Ski Area with access to 19 individual pistes. In addition to the skiing in Seefeld itself (27km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Olympia Region Seefeld ski resort of Mösern.
With skiing above 2000 metres, snow cover is generally reliable.
Snowmaking :- Seefeld is able to augment natural snow, on 41km of ski runs, with 150 Snow Cannons.
Ski Lift Capacity :- The 23 Ski Lifts of Seefeld are able to uplift 16,500 skiers / snowboarders per hour.
There are three airports within two hours drive, so ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays to Seefeld are perfectly feasible. Salzburg Airport is just one hours drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.
Skiing in Seefeld
The downhill skiing in the Seefeld Olympia Region is concentrated in Seefeld in two sections - the smaller Gschwandtkopf mountain (south-west of Seefeld) and the larger Rosshütte/Härmelekopf mountain (to the north-east). Gschwandtkopf is a gently rounded hill with wooded slopes and beginners tend to progress on to it from the nursery area on the Geigenbühel hill in the centre of the village. Most of the runs are blue and two of the resort's six chairlifts are here.
The Rosshütte, reached by a funicular railway, offers Seefeld's serious skiing. There are often moguls on the red trail at the top of the Seefelder Joch that would be black in many resorts and there are several notable off-piste trails on the Härmelekopf which can be undertaken with a guide. The area pass covers many exciting runs and should be adequate to satisfy even the most demanding skiers.
For lunchtime, skiers and boarders will find the Rosshütte restaurant serving Tyrolean delicacies and international specialities. Other choices are the Ski-Alm, situated at the base terminal and the best place for après-ski, the Skistadl with 'Murmelebau', or the most recent addition, the Hocheggalm.
Two Olympic Games and Nordic Ski World Championships made the Olympiaregion Seefeld well-known all over the world. There are around 265 km (159 miles) of trails in the area.
Snowboarding in Seefeld
Seefeld's Crazy Hole terrain park on the Rosshutte is located between 1580 and 1650m and stretches over about 360m. Boarders and free skiers have a dozen different elements to enjoy including a three jump combination with jumps from four to eight metres, along with two quarter pipes, double waves, rails and three super size steep turns. Elsewhere the wide open trails are particularly well suited to beginner and intermediate levels of 'boarder ability.
Although there's a new gondola, a cable car and a funicular in order to access the highest runs on the Rosshütte, most of the other lifts are T Bars, so it's usually best to go from bottom to top on these lifts then ride all the way down unless you've mastered the ultimate skill of riding a T Bar with a 'board.
Seefeld Aprés Ski
Seefeld has about a dozen dedicated bars, in addition to hotel and restaurant facilities. There are a further three discotheques. The resort has a reputation for its lively, cosmopolitan and imaginative options as the different venues compete to offer the most original attractions. Many bars are open to 2 or 4am. Among the more unique choices is The Siglu, a glass igloo belonging to the five star Hotel Klosterbräu . You may just run in to prominent people from the world of sports, politics and film coming from all over the world.
Buffalo, open to 4am, is an authentic Western saloon with hot meals (Tex/Mex). Here you can obtain a beer with a coin, a gold mine; there is also a boat containing a second bar. Various figures are posed around the bar including a wooden life-sized Indian and there is live country-music every Thursday. The Britannia is a typical English pub and meeting place for people of all ages, open up to 1am: billiards, pinball and darts are on offer. Other popular bars include Fledermaus and Wildfang.
For the more traditional Tyrolean style, Beisl is a cosy pub also owned by the Hotel Klosterbräu and located on the ground and first floors. It is furnished in the rustic style using the interior of a century-old Tirolean farmer's home which was transported to the building. The Sportpub contains a wine bar in the sports area where you will also find a fitness room, an indoor swimming pool, an indoor tennis court and golf course, table-tennis, bowling lanes, billiards, darts, table football and pinball.
Discothèques include the Full Moon - the latest attraction of the Hotel Klosterbräu. Special events staged here include the disco queen contest, Karaoke evenings, rave nights and more. The new Jeep discotheque which pumps out mainly techno-sound is named after an old jeep, which stands inside the disco! There are also 4 car-racing video games.
Other evening choices include the cinema, a sleigh ride, toboganning or tubing. The Casino Seefeld gives you the option to play a game of Baccara, Poker, Stud Poker, Wheel of Fortune, Seven Eleven, American Roulette, French Roulette, Black Jack, Sic Bo and many more. Open from 3am to 3pm, tournaments and special events are sometimes organised, for example Ladies' Night, Mens' Night, wine tasting and exhibitions.
