Matrei in Osttirol, Austria (920m to 2400m)
The Goldried ski area has constantly improved over the years. There's a gondola lift and snowmaking from top to bottom over a world class vertical that would put it in the top five ski areas by vertical in North America. The 12km (seven mile) Cima Ross run down to the resort is the longest piste in the East Tirol.
There are great views from the top of the lifts, with over 60 peaks more than 3000m high including the nearby Großglockner.
Facilities include a half pipe for snowboarders and Bobo's Kinderland with play park, conveyer lift and a separate area for children's ski school with warm-up area.
