Gröbming, Austria (750m to 1800m)

One of the villages on the Dachstein Tauern lift ticket, the closest skiing, apart from three blue trails in the valley, is on the Stoderzinken accessed by a toll road ( 30km / 20 miles of trails ). The vertical drop there is 300m and it is not possible to ski the full vertical back to Gröbming. More unusual pastimes in the resort include snow-rafting, going downhill in a rubber dinghy and tuibing. There are particularly good facilities for children with a special kids fun park and a permanent race course for speed freaks to test out.
