Abtenau's small local ski area on the low lying Karkogel is supplemented by the Dachstein West Ski Area, ten minutes away. The Karkogel does have two blacks and there's some off piste and a ski jump to enjoy!

Abtenau

The Austrian ski resort of Abtenau is part of the Dachstein West Ski Area with access to 97 individual pistes. In addition to the skiing in Abtenau itself (80km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Dachstein West ski resorts of Annaberg, Gosau, Katrin - Bad Ischl, Krippenstein, Obertraun/Dachstein and Rußbach.

The skiing is at relatively low altitude, so snow cover can be variable.

Snowmaking :- Abtenau is able to augment natural snow, on 1km of ski runs, with 16 Snow Cannons.

Ski Lift Capacity :- The 7 Ski Lifts of Abtenau are able to uplift 5,362 skiers / snowboarders per hour.

There are four airports within two hours drive, so ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays to Abtenau are perfectly feasible. Salzburg Airport is just one hours drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.
